A Glareshield for my Zaon MRX
Yes a little glareshield that keeps the sun from reflecting off the display on my Zaon MRX.
Based on good feedback from fellow pilots I purchased a Zaon MRX PCAS (Portable Collisions Avoidance System) for my glider last year but have not had time to fly with it much yet. It attaches to the top of the instrument panel glareshield on my DG-303 with velcro. The bright LED display on the MRX is readable in daylight but the display surface is shiny and this is some times a problem with sunlight reflections.
I was trying to thinking of different solutions. While rummaging through plastic scraps at a TAP Plastics store I saw some matte black acrylic sheet and an idea hit me. So I brought it and fabricated a little glareshield for the MRX that slides on over the front of the MRX and is held in place with a small velcro tab on the top of the unit. A part of the glareshield hangs down at the front but still allows the MRX to attach to the top of the instrument panel glareshield. My glider is at Williams Soaring for its annual inspection, but I hope to test this out soon.
BTW I purchased the MRX from Sky Geek.

Ha. That was short lived. I was showing this to some people and dropped the Zaon and glareshield on the floor and broke the part that went around the front of the Zaon MRX. The plastic was only acrylic. Polycarbonate would probably have survived the fall. Since I don’t have a easy source of matt black polycarbonate sheet I’m just going to make a simpler version without the part that goes around the front of the MRX.

Darryl,
Are you leaving enough space between the sun Shield and the MRX so you can hear the audio alert well?

There is a hole drilled in the top just above the piezo speaker. (I think one photo was taken before the hole was drilled.)
